Past ARLIS/NE Programs - Notes:
May 16th, 1997 - Arnold Arboretum & Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Plain, MA
The New England Chapter of the Art Libraries Society of North America will hold its first 1997 meeting
at Harvard University's Arnold Arboretum and the Forest Hills Cemetery in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.
The day will focus on landscape architecture and horticulture. We will begin the day at the Arnold
Arboretum in Boston, lunch will be in a nearby restaurant, and the afternoon session will include a
walking tour of Forest Hills Cemetery.
Our visit at the Arboretum will include a tour of the Library and some of its treasures. unusual
collections, and special projects as well of a walking tour through the living collections led by a
member of the Arboretum staff. There will also be an opportunity to see the new permanent exhibit,
Science in the Pleasure Ground, in the recently restored Hunnewell Building.
Lunch will be held at a nearby restaurant, The Dogwood Cafe, allowing us time to visit with our
colleagues and to conduct a business meeting.
The afternoon will include a guided tour through Forest Hills Cemetery. Richard Heath, Executive
Director of the Boston Greenspace Alliance, will be our guide and will explain the planning of the
cemetery and show us the highlights.
Sarah Dickinson, Past Chair, has offered to host afternoon refreshments after the meeting at her home
in Jamaica Plain. Those who wish to join in will leave for Sarah's from the Cemetery.
Though we should have lovely weather the third week in May, please be prepared for rain. The meeting
will be held regardless of weather.

$15.00.
