Membership Information

We invite you to join ARLIS/NE in order to meet other professionals who share your interests and concerns, to learn about activities and advancements in your field, and to add your own valuable contributions to the profession. If you would like to go directly to the membership form, please see the membership form page and either print the form, or download a .pdf file.

General Information

Membership in the local ARLIS chapter provides an opportunity for art information specialists to become more actively involved in projects encouraged by ARLIS/NA, including:

  • establishing standards for art libraries and visual resources collections
  • improving education in art librarianship
  • developing cooperative acquisitions and cataloging programs
  • library networking

Benefits of chapter membership include:

  • copies of all ARLIS/NE publications (newsletter and membership directory)
  • voting privileges, and eligibility to run for chapter office
  • invitations to our chapter meetings (generally held three times a year, at various sites around the region) and the opportunity to participate, formally or informally, in meeting activities
  • eligibility for the Wolfgang Freitag Professional Development Award

Our membership is comprised of:

  • art and architecture librarians
  • slide and photograph curators
  • archivists
  • students
  • consultants
  • publishers and dealers in print and non-print media

Membership Categories

  • Personal Memberships are intended for individuals. These members receive all benefits of membership as listed above.
  • Student Memberships are intended for full time library school students. Student members receive all the benefits included in a Personal Membership.
  • Institutional Memberships are intended for institutions which are also members of ARLIS/NA and wish to receive a copy of each ARLIS/NE publication. One designated representative of that institution will appear in the membership directory; that representative will receive the benefits of Personal Membership, as described at left. Others at the same institution may receive the same benefits by obtaining Personal Memberships.

Please Note: Membership in the New England Chapter is open to current members of ARLIS/North America. Information on ARLIS/NA is available at chapter meetings and can also be obtained from chapter officers.

ARLIS/NE membership runs from January through December of each calendar year. Members who join or renew before February 28 will appear in the membership directory. New memberships received after October 1 will be applied to the following calendar year.

If you have questions about membership, please contact any of the 2007 New England Chapter Officers.
